garden house
a plot located in the heart of a dynamic urban neighborhood becomes the starting point for this exciting project. Surrounded by the family houses, this plot offers a unique opportunity to create a green oasis in the city, waiting to be transformed into something special.
the terrain reveals a gentle, very horizontal topography, providing the possibility to design a garden that integrates perfectly with the existing environment. The surrounding structures provide a sense of intimacy and protection. In this environment, the plot becomes a natural canvas on which to arrange three main buildings: a Pottery Studio, a main office and a smaller office, as well as the staff quarters.
the project
the Garden House is a place where architecture and nature merge to create a unique atmosphere where people can enjoy in peace and harmony.
the form and geometry of the buildings evoke ancient temples, based on classical principles such as proportion, rhythm and monumentality through the use of scale and composition. The layout on the plot seeks the comfort of the family, showing that the greatest luxury is to be found in the beautiful relationship between architecture and landscape.
proposal
the project proposes a reconfiguration of the levels, moving the main office from the ground floor to a lower level, sheltered from the surrounding buildings. This produces a number of important benefits:
1. the plot is occupied more efficiently, taking advantage of many more areas of the land, maximizing its possibilities.
2. the visual impact of the buildings is minimized, extending the garden area, favoring greater integration with the landscape and extending the garden area as much as possible.
3. greater privacy of the spaces is guaranteed, with cross views at different levels controlled by the arrangement of vegetation.
4. on the roof of the main office, an area is created for family gatherings, with a pergola providing shade towards an area with outdoor sofas and a large table.
a courtyard excavated in the ground offers a new space on the plot. The protection of the side walls makes it possible to open up the interior space to the garden, dissolving the limits of the architecture and blending into the surrounding landscape.
following the compositional principles of ancient temples, a series of bands of great visual weight organize the plot. These bands have different uses, such as the arrangement of structural elements, storage, planters for vegetation, benches for seating, and even skylights.
materiality
the materiality of the project will be predominant rammed earth. It involves compacting layers of earth, containing a mixture of clay, sand, gravel, and sometimes stabilizers like cement or lime, into solid walls. It has a low environmental impact while providing excellent thermal mass properties.
